Jared opening second jewelry store in Buffalo area

Story tools:

A vacant Mexican restaurant on Niagara Falls Boulevard will soon be serving up diamonds and pearls.

Jared — The Galleria of Jewelry will open its second Buffalo- area store in the former Don Pablos restaurant at 1591 Niagara Falls Blvd. in Boulevard Consumer Square. The jewelry superstore is holding a job fair at the Courtyard by Marriot on Sheridan Drive in Amherst this week seeking management, sales and repair staff for its third New York location.

Jared debuted in Western New York in 2005 with a store on Walden Avenue in Cheektowaga.

The financially troubled Don Pablos closed the Amherst site, its only remaining local restaurant, in mid-December. The company had previously closed sites in Buffalo and Clarence.

The Clarence restaurant will reopen later this year as Quaker Steak & Lube, while the site on Elmwood Avenue in Buffalo has sat idle for nearly seven years.

Jared, which will open by early fall, is one of several retail newcomers to Boulevard Consumer Square. Developers Diversified Realty Corp., the shopping center’s owner, is in the process of converting a former Kmart store to a new multi-tenant complex. Eastern Mountain Sports, Old Navy Clothing Co., OfficeMax, Christmas Tree Shops and Ultra Cosmetics have all signed onto the overhauled and expanded retail venue.

Jared, a sister company to Kay Jewelers, is owned by Sterling Inc. of Akron, Ohio.

Sterling operates some 1,300 jewelry outlets in the United States, including over 130 Jared stores. Sterling is controlled by the United Kingdom-based Signet Group.
