Erie 1 Board of Cooperative Educational Services, established in 1957, provides school districts with ways to meet education goals through shared services. It covers 19 school districts, assisting them with cooperative purchasing and health insurance, and offers them instructional and noninstructional services, policy development and technology.
Based in West Seneca, it has six area locations. Erie 1 employs 974 people, and survey respondents cited their competitive pay and benefits, supportive leadership and overall fulfillment from working with students.
“This is the best job that I have ever had. I feel that Erie 1 BOCES strongly values its students, faculty, and staff and is committed to excellence,” an employee wrote.
“I love my job because I have the freedom and support to teach the subject that I am passionate about, in a truly awesome atmosphere,” said another.
Another worker said: “I love to teach students and help them get ready for the real world. Every morning I am excited to start a new day, with a new idea for each and every student. If my students do not succeed, then I feel I have not accomplished my goal.”
Erie 1 also provides special and alternative education programs to its districts’ students. And it offers career programs for adults and more than 25 programs to high school students in its career and technical centers.
