After that raucous celebration when you turn 21, there aren’t many birthday milestones to look forward to.

Unless you’re white-knuckling it to retirement (Woo hoo! Happy 67th birthday to me!), birthdays often come and go like any other day.

But there is a way to bring some excitement back into your special day. Sign up for member reward programs with stores that give birthday freebies, and you’ll be showered with gifts like you’re a kid again.

Companies will email a voucher for you to print out or pull up on your smartphone that you can redeem for a special birthday treat.

Sign up now, because some companies require you to be a member for 30 days before your birthday to receive your first treat.

If you’re worried about your primary email account getting clogged up with promotional emails, use a secondary email address. Offers are good only at participating locations, so call ahead before cashing them in.
