Orchard Fresh, a separate arm of gourmet grocery stores launched by Tops Friendly Markets, has been named “best new concept design” by Progressive Grocer magazine’s Store Design Contest.
The magazine cited the store’s “open-market floor plan” which gives “a visual panorama of the entire store immediately upon entry” as its favorite design element.”
It called the store’s vast center island, from which prepared foods are served, its most progressive feature and lauded its mobile produce cases as a clever way to showcase the store’s changing organic offerings.
The store was designed by Ohio-based CIP Retail Design with input from employees from each of the store’s departments. The 30,400-square-foot Orchard Park store is vastly smaller than a Tops store, so designers paid particular attention to maximizing the limited space.
