The Greater Niagara Chamber of Commerce, based in St. Catharines, Ont., named Kithio Mwanzia interim chief executive officer, replacing the current chief executive officer Walter Sendzik, while on leave. Mwanzia previously led the chamber’s advocacy, public affairs and government relations portfolio for several years.
In addition, the board named Dave Shaw, vice president of marketing for Advanced Office Solutions, board adviser during the interim leadership period.
Phillips Lytle partner Lisa L. Smith was elected to a three-year term on the Charter School for Applied Technologies’ board of trustees.
Buffalo Seminary named Margaret Brown chairwoman of its board of trustees. Brown has served on the school’s board for two six-year terms.
Hoopla! Frozen Yogurt recently celebrated the grand opening of its newest area store in the Tops Plaza, next to Moe’s Southwest Grill at Crossroads Center in Orchard Park. During the last 12 months, Hoopla! has opened its frozen dessert stores in 11 cities and towns across upstate New York.
Existing and upcoming Hoopla! stores in Rochester, Buffalo and other parts of Western New York are owned and operated by two upstate New York brothers, Matt and Pete Walsh.
Woodbury Winery’s Foxy Blush Renard wine won the Best Catawba, a Best of Class award and a Gold Medal at the 2014 New York Wine & Food Classic competition, held recently at the Watkins Glen Harbor Hotel in Watkins Glen. Additional medals won by Woodbury at this competition include a Double Gold medal for its Niagara and Silver medals for its Blueberry and 2013 Riesling. This year’s competition included 835 New York wines from several regions across New York State. Also, the winery won a Best Blush award for its Seaport Blush in the 2014 New York State Fair 2014 commercial wine competition. Woodbury Winery is located in Fredonia.
