Rules aid craft brewers
New rules that are expected to be signed into law by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo will give the state’s craft brewers and distillers more flexibility to expand their operations.
The new rules will:
• Raise the production cap for a “farm brewery” license from 60,000 barrels per year to 75,000.
• Increase the production cap for a “farm winery” or “farm cidery” license from 150,000 gallons per year to 250,000.
• Allow all manufacturers to conduct tastings of their beverages and sell them by the bottle or glass without a separate license.
• Raise the production cap for a “farm distillery” license from 35,000 gallons per year to 75,000 and allow them to open one branch location.
The new rules should make it easier for the state’s craft brewers, distillers and wineries to grow, said Assemblyman Sean Ryan, D-Buffalo.
