Home Furniture Gallery, which was started in 2011 by three sons of the founder of the now defunct Rosa’s Home Stores chain, is closing its Town of Tonawanda store and selling off its inventory, company officials announced Friday. The company will continue to operate its second store, in Cheektowaga.
The company said the Tonawanda store, at 2880 Sheridan Drive at Eggert Road, is closing because it lost its lease, according to the company statement.
Erie County records show the building is owned by Paul F. Rosa, founder of the Rosa’s chain, who was chairman of Home Furniture Gallery when the company launched in fall 2011. Home Furniture Gallery officials did not return repeated messages seeking comment.
Paul F. Rosa founded Rosa’s Home Stores in 1981 and sold his company in 2007. It’s new owners declared bankruptcy in late 2010.
His sons David, Paul M. and Anthony, founded Home Furniture Gallery, which now will focus on its location at 3770 Union Road, near the Walden Galleria.
The Sheridan Drive store was badly damaged in a 2001 arson fire that killed store manager Joseph Muscato Jr. No one has ever been charged in the crime.
