Representatives of the state Department of Financial Services will be onsite in Buffalo and Cheektowaga for the next three days to meet with struggling homeowners who are seeking to avoid foreclosure on their homes.
The state’s Mobile Command Center will be at ELIM Christian Fellowship, at 70 Chalmers Ave., in Buffalo, today; Cheektowaga Town Hall at 3301 Broadway on Thursday; and back in Buffalo at the American Legion at 533 Amherst St. on Friday. Staff will be available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The outreach program, developed by the state and launched last year, provides confidential meetings for homeowners with state representatives, who assess the homeowners’ situation and can offer help with applying for mortgage modifications, intervening with mortgage lenders or servicers, helping homeowners to communicate with lenders or servicers, and taking complaints about mortgage lending abuses. Housing counselors will also be available.
Anyone who is unable to meet personally with a representative can call the state’s foreclosure hotline at (800)342-3736.
