Two of the area’s leading specialty graphic companies have become one, creating a more comprehensive printing and sign business.

DKM Sales acquired Ad Art Color Processes of Buffalo for an undisclosed amount. The new company is called DKM•Ad Art.

While Ad Art, founded in 1925, specialized in screen printing, DKM Sales’ focus was predominantly digital printing. With the merger, the company also will offer plastic fabrication.

“With the companies together we have something to really offer our clients,” said Kevin Hejna, former owner of Ad Art, who is now employed with the new company. “It’s a bigger array of things we have for our customers. Bringing the two businesses together should help everybody.”

DKM, founded in 1938, absorbed Ad Art’s people, and the company now has 40 employees. The new company is operating out of DKM Sales’ offices on Genesee Street in Buffalo.

Ad Art has been in business for almost 90 years, and with the merger, it can continue and its employees will continue to work, Hejna said.

Services and products include screen printing; graphics design and layout; lawn signs; and a variety of architectural and electric sign systems. Institutions, retailers and marketing companies are among the company’s local and national clients.

The two businesses had mutual customers, and with Hejna nearing retirement, the sale was possible, said Ken Krzeminski, managing partner of the new company.

He said the acquisition is a melding of equipment and expertise.

“It’s just the right fit for what we need to expand our product line,” he said.
