A Virginia-based candymaker will have a new name when it moves its headquarters to the Town of Tonawanda.
Wythe Will Tzetzo, LLC has changed its name to First Source, LLC.
“The name First Source more accurately reflects our strategy of being the premier supplier of candy, nuts, snacks and specialty gourmet products to America’s retailers in all classes of trade,” said Keith McDaniel, the company’s chief executive officer. “This is the next logical step as we serve our customers from coast to coast.”
Wythe Will Tzetzo was formed when Virginia’s Wythe Will merged with Buffalo’s Tzetzo Brothers in 2011. In 2013, it acquired California-based Garvey Nut & Candy Co.
First Source packages and distributes candy and specialty foods for such national brands as Ghirardelli, Godiva and Jelly Belly, as well as unbranded and private label confections, serving such clients as Tops, Wegmans, Bed Bath and Beyond, 7-Eleven and Dollar General.
The company has outgrown its California and Tonawanda facilities. It moved to a larger facility in Southern California, which allowed it to upgrade its packaging equipment and technology. At its Town of Tonawanda facility on Military Road, it has added two new packing lines, a third robotic packing system and other packing machinery.
The company bought 25 acres at the town’s North Youngmann Commerce Center, where it will build an $18.7 million facility. The 310,000-square-foot building will consolidate the company’s three local sites in Tonawanda, Cheektowaga and Buffalo, housing its manufacturing, packaging and distribution operations. It will also serve as the company’s new headquarters.
The project has been approved for more than $5.1 million in tax breaks through the Erie County Industrial Development Agency. It is expected to create 20 full-time and 30 part-time positions in Tonawanda over the next two years.
First Source is owned by Slate Capital Group, a Baltimore-based private equity group. It has 500 employees, 165 of whom work in Tonawanda.
