The Buffalo Niagara Partnership board of directors re-elected Tim C. Loftis chairman for an additional one year term. Loftis is a partner at Jaeckle Fleischmann & Mugel.



Buffalo General Medical Center named Lisa Schmidt chief operating officer, core services, and appointed Jeffrey Jude Holt chief operating officer of the new Advanced Orthopedic and Spine Center. Schmidt is a Medaille College graduate with a master’s degree from Daemen College. Holt was a corporate director at Meridian Health in New Jersey. He graduated from Geneseo State College and received a master’s degree from New York University. Also, the center named Maralyn Spittler director of quality improvement of the Advanced Orthopedic and Spine Center. Spittler is University at Buffalo graduate with a master’s degree from Troy State University.



The Lancaster Area Chamber of Commerce appointed John L. Chmarney president and CEO. Chmarney, a Penn State grad, has been a corporate executive, small business owner and business coach.



Wendel, an architectural and engineering firm, named Whitney K. Vantine education specialist. Whitney recently retired as superintendent of schools for Tonawanda City School District. He received his master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Ithaca College and his doctorate from NOVA Southeastern University in Florida.



HSBC Bank USA promoted Edmund E. Mielcarek to vice president, relationship manager in Buffalo, Mielcarek, who joined the bank in 2002, is a Niagara University graduate.



Lawley Insurance appointed Trish Romo and Kim Navagh corporate talent development managers. Romo earned her master’s degree from Medaille College. Navagh previously worked at Personnel Resource.



Catholic Medical Partners, a network of more than 900 physicians, Catholic Health and Mount St. Mary’s Hospital, appointed Peggy Davis Smering director of care management and Patricia Podkulski program director, accountable care organization facilitation and educational transformation. Smering is an RN and a Niagara University graduate. Podkulski is an RN who earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University at Buffalo.



Tully Rinckey appointed Robert C. Baron a senior associate. Baron, who operated a law firm in Williamsville for nearly a decade, received his J.D. from the University at Buffalo School of Law and his bachelor’s from UB.

Bishop Timon‑St. Jude High School promoted Kevin P. McLaughlin to chief operating officer. McLaughlin earned a master of divinity degree from Christ the King Seminary in East Aurora and his bachelor’s degree from Wadhams Hall College-Seminary. Also, the school promoted Michele Battin to director of academics. Battin earned her master’s degree from St. Bonaventure and bachelor’s degree from SUNY Buffalo State.



The law firm of Kloss, Stenger and LoTempio appointed Philip B. Abramowitz and Joseph J. Marusak counsel. Abramowitz, a former assistant United States attorney in the Western District of New York, he received his J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law. Marusak is a graduate of Canisius College and the University at Buffalo School of Law, He is also a former Erie County deputy district attorney and homicide bureau chief.



Metro Group promoted Lizz Schumer to editor of the Springville Journal and Jessie Owen editor of The Sun newspaper of Hamburg. Schumer is a St. Bonaventure University graduate with a master’s degree from Goddard College. Owen graduated from Bob Jones University in South Carolina.
