Hertel Avenue is making room for another homegrown store.
Room, an Elmwood Avenue housewares retailer, has expanded its reach to a second location at 1400 Hertel.
The new North Buffalo site features home design and decor, furniture and accessories from a range of Western New York companies, including Clarence Center’s Italian Marble & Granite; Dobkin Tile and Stone, which has an outlet in Cheektowaga; and MP Caroll Hardwood of Cheektowaga, as well as Buffalo’s Ridgewood Custom Cabinetry and Schuele Paint Co.
The store also will feature furniture from Calvin Klein and Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams, as well as a catalog of 300 other items.
“The store will act as one huge sample, where everything seen here is available through us,” said Michael Poczkalski, co-owner of room.
At what will be known as room hertel, customers will be able to work with store staff to create custom home designs. The store also offers color consultations, custom in-home services and architectural services.
The original room location at 988 Elmwood will reopen Wednesday after reconfiguration. The “baby room” portion, situated at the rear of the store, will expand throughout the entire space to feature baby furniture, accessories, gifts and seasonal items.
With the two stores, Poczkalski said room “can become a force in the decorating industry.”
