The U. S. Census Bureau’s Buffalo office announced Tuesday it will hire as many as 2,000 temporary workers for eight to 10 weeks starting in April.

The bulk of hires will be door-to-door census-takers assigned to interview citizens who do not return census questionnaires. That position pays $13.50 per hour plus travel reimbursement of $0.55 per mile. A small number of field supervisors will make $14.50 to $16.50 per hour. Clerical workers also will be hired at $10.25 per hour.

The Buffalo office serves Buffalo, Lackawanna, Niagara Falls, the Tonawandas, Cheektowaga, Grand Island, the Town of Niagara and West Seneca. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, pass a multiple-choice skills assessment test and have a valid Social Security number, U. S. citizenship, valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.

Interested applicants should call (866) 861-2010 to schedule an appointment to take a 30-minute multiple-choice skills assessment test. More information and a sample test are available at
