Roswell Park Cancer Institute appointed Dr. Elisabeth Dexter director of its Community Thoracic Oncology Outreach Program and Thoracic Surgery Training Program. Most recently, Dexter was an associate professor of surgery and chief of the Division of Thoracic Surgery with the University at New York Upstate Medical University and Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Syracuse.
Buffalo Ultrasound President and CEO Michael Straeck was named a regional director of the National Association of Portable X-Ray Providers. He will serve a one-year term working with portable X-ray providers in 13 states and the District of Columbia to address state and federal issues concerning the industry. He has been involved in the industry for more than 17 years.
Chelus, Herdzik, Speyer and Monte attorney Michael J. Chmiel presented on the topic of new developments in Medicare at the Buffalo Claim Association’s Education Day in Adam’s Mark Hotel. The presentation centered on the impact of Medicare liens on personal injury litigation and the obligations that attorneys and insurance adjusters have with regard to the federal government.

Risa’s Deli&Catering will open at 285 Delaware Ave. in late fall. The deli specializes in homemade soups, sandwiches, salads and desserts and offers both sit-down and takeout dining options for breakfast and lunch, as well as delivery service. The business is owned and managed by Risa Paonessa, who has been in the restaurant business for more than 30 years.
AdaptaVan, partnered with Freedom Mobility Aids in Clemmons, N. C., and Handicap Conversions in Kansas City, Mo. The Clarence-based company now offers its wheelchair-accessible vans in North Carolina and Missouri. AdaptaVan provides customizable wheelchair-accessible vehicles, known as AdaptaVans, tailored to the needs of physically challenged and disabled individuals.
