Unionized workers at Goodyear Dunlop Tires North America’s Town of Tonawanda plant will learn details of a tentative contract next week.
Informational meetings about the deal, which was reached with Goodyear Tire&Rubber Co. last Saturday, will be held next Wednesday and Friday, according to United Steelworkers Local 135. Ratification votes will take place the same days as the two meetings, with additional time for workers to vote on the morning of Sept. 12.
Details of the tentative agreement have not yet been disclosed, but summaries of the deal will distributed to workers on Tuesday, according to the local.
The Steelworkers local represents about 864 hourly workers at the Sheridan Drive plant. They are among 10,300 U. S. workers at a total of seven sites who are covered by the contract talks. Locals at those plants are planning their own meetings and votes.
The Pittsburgh-based Steelworkers union has not announced when a final vote count will be disclosed. The union and the company began contract talks in June.
The tentative deal reached last weekend came just hours before the expiration of a second contract extension.
In 2006, the Steelworkers were on strike for about three months before reaching an agreement with the company that was then ratified.
The Town of Tonawanda plant makes tires for passenger cars, commercial trucks and motorcycles.
