GREENBURGH, N.Y. (AP) — Residents of a suburban New York City town want a private gun range shut down after a bullet fragment struck a woman in the leg in the backyard of a neighboring home last month.
Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner says the Westchester County Police Revolver and Rifle League is within shooting distance of the middle school playground.
The decades-old range is not affiliated with a police agency. Consolidated Edison has leased the land to the range since 1957. Spokesman Sidney Alvarez tells the Journal News the company is reviewing the lease.
Residents of a new development called Toll Brothers asked town officials to shut down the range at a recent town board meeting.
The range is closed while police investigate the June 12 incident.
