ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Republican Nan Hayworth has won the Independence Party line in her bid to re-take the Hudson Valley congressional seat held by Democratic Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney.
Unofficial results from Tuesday show Hayworth with 732 votes to Maloney's 650. Maloney called Hayworth to congratulate her on the race.
Hayworth faces Maloney in a November rematch of the 2012 race, when the former aide to President Bill Clinton unseated the Republican first-termer.
Both have their party's nomination in the suburban district north of New York City. Maloney also has the Working Families Party line. Hayworth has the Conservative Party line.
Hayworth, an ophthalmologist, lives in Bedford. Maloney lives in Cold Spring.
The district covers Orange and Putnam counties and parts of Dutchess and Westchester.
