SOUTH JORDAN, Utah (AP) — An 8-year-old girl is in critical condition after she was struck by a school bus in her suburban Salt Lake City neighborhood.
South Jordan Police Sgt. Sam Winkler says the girl had just gotten off her bus Wednesday afternoon and was crossing the street when she was struck by a second bus.
She was taken to a nearby hospital then flown to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City, where she underwent surgery and remains in critical condition with head injuries.
Winkler says the second bus driver didn't see the girl.
Parents in South Jordan tell KUTV-TV (http://tinyurl.com/pc4owcl ) they've asked the district before to move the bus stop off the busy street, but school officials say there's a problem with the local homeowners association.
The accident remains under investigation.
