TARRYTOWN, N.Y. (AP) — Construction of the new Tappan Zee Bridge has been temporarily suspended due to ice conditions in the Hudson River.
A construction company spokeswoman tells the Journal News (http://lohud.us/1hyKXI8 ) that Tappan Zee Constructors will resume work once temperatures rise and the ice melts.
Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing Thursday before rising into the 50s over the weekend.
Crews recently began work on the new bridge's foundation.
The $3.9 billion project will replace an aging, overused span on the state Thruway between Westchester and Rockland counties.
The new bridge is slated to open in 2018.
