ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) Students in some upstate New York school districts are getting another day added to their Christmas vacation as severe weather cancels classes in some areas.

A few schools are closed in western and central New York Thursday morning because of the weather, but scores of other schools in the eastern section of the state have called off classes or are delaying their start as the region is hit with snow and frigid temperatures.

Some upstate districts are off through Friday for the Christmas break, but many others had planned to resume classes on Thursday. Up to 14 inches of snow is forecast by Friday for some areas from western New York to the borders of the New England states, with high temperatures in the single digits and lows well below zero.
