DRYDEN, N.Y. (AP) — The Tompkins County district attorney says a 31-year-old woman found dead on a road in Dryden was fatally injured when she fell out of a car.
Police have charged 36-year-old Arthur Basso of Cayuga County with leaving the scene of the Nov. 10 incident without reporting it. Basso appeared in Dryden Town Court on Monday and his lawyer entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.
Basso told investigators that his girlfriend, Crystal Grobelny, jumped out of the moving car on her own. He said he looked for her but didn't see her. Authorities are still investigating.
Basso said they had celebrated the one-year anniversary of their first date the night before the accident. Grobelny was found unresponsive along West Dryden Road around 7 a.m. on Nov. 10.
