WILMINGTON, N.Y. (AP) Fake snow flurries have begun to fall at an upstate New York ski mountain ahead of the alpine season.

The Olympic Regional Development Authority says Friday the state-owned Whiteface Mountain ski center near Lake Placid has begun snowmaking ahead of the Nov. 29 ski season start.

The popular Adirondacks skiing destination will continue packing on the flakes leading up to opening day on the Upper Valley, Lower Valley and Fox trails.

Whiteface was a site of the 1980 Winter Olympics based in nearby Lake Placid.
