NEW YORK (AP) — The NYPD is investigating a rape they say occurred at New York University's Catholic Center in Greenwich Village.
Police say a 24-year-old woman was raped there around 5:30 a.m. Thursday.
The woman was jumped as she opened the door to the center where she worked as a lay minister.
Police say the suspect pushed her inside, then beat and raped her. He stole her cell phone before fleeing.
The victim was treated at a hospital and released.
NYU sent an email to students reminding them to travel in pairs when possible and to use well-lit and populated streets.
A spokesman says the cardinal and the Archdiocese of New York was keeping the victim in their prayers.
