NEW YORK (AP) — New York city police say a 22-year-old man armed with a knife was shot and killed by officers.
Police on Monday afternoon responded to a call from a man who said someone was threatening to kill him with a knife. When they responded to the Brooklyn address, police say 22-year-old Rexford Dasrath banged on the patrol car's window with a knife and tossed a glass bottle that shattered behind the officers' vehicle.
The officers got out of the car and told the man to drop the knife. Police say the knife-wielding man lunged at an officer who fired, striking him in the torso and hand. The Brooklyn man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The knife was recovered at the scene.
The NYPD is investigating.
