NEW CITY, N.Y. (AP) The estates of two people killed in a New York boat accident have filed lawsuits alleging that poor lighting on a construction barge is to blame.

The lawsuits were filed Wednesday in Rockland County Court. They name several companies involved in the construction of a new Tappan (TAP'-uhn) Zee Bridge across the Hudson River.

The lawsuits stem from a July 26 accident when a powerboat slammed into a barge. A bride-to-be and her fiance's best man drowned.

The lawsuit says those deaths could have been prevented if the barge owners had heeded warnings about lighting.

The Coast Guard has said the barge was properly lighted.

The boat's pilot, Jojo John, pleaded not guilty Wednesday to manslaughter and other charges.
