UTICA, N.Y. (AP) — A central New York accountant has been sentenced to 5 to 15 years in prison for stealing more than $800,000 from three people and a church.
Local media outlets report that 61-year-old Craig Podosek of Clayville was sentenced Thursday in Oneida County Court in Utica.
Prosecutors say he used a Ponzi-like scheme to steal nearly $400,000 from a Utica-area church and also bilked three people out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Podosek pleaded guilty in September to four counts of second-degree grand larceny and one count of first-degree scheme to defraud. He admitted to repeatedly stealing money from one person to pay back debts owed to another person.
Podosek has since paid back some of the money he stolen but never explained what happened to the rest of it.
