NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (AP) Authorities say two state park police officers are being credited with preventing a suicidal man from jumping into the Niagara River near Niagara Falls.

State police say one of their troopers responded Thursday to a report of a man attempting to jump into the river from the Robert Moses Parkway in the city of Niagara Falls.

Sgt. John Marcyan and Officer Jeffery Eckert of the State Park Police also responded to the area. Officials say while patrols were looking for the man, he ran in front of Marcyan's vehicle and sprinted to a railing along the river.

Marcyan and Eckert wrestled the man off the railing and got him under control. He was later taken by a trooper to Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital for evaluation.
