GOSHEN, N.Y. (AP) — Bail has been set at $50,000 cash or $100,000 bond for an upstate New York man facing charges of fatally shooting a rape suspect.
An Orange County judge rejected a request from prosecutors to set bail at $250,000 cash for David Carlson. The 42-year-old Sparrowbush resident faces indictment on unspecified charges in the killing last week of rape suspect Norris Acosta-Sanchez.
Police say Acosta-Sanchez confronted Carlson on his property about 95 miles northwest of New York City. Acosta-Sanchez was wanted by police in Rockland County for second-degree rape.
Troopers say Carlson, armed with a shotgun, told Acosta-Sanchez they would go to a neighbor's house and call police. At some point, Carlson shot Acosta-Sanchez.
Carlson's wife told the Times Herald-Record of Middletown (http://bit.ly/H7wF11 ) that her husband was innocent and would make bail.
