BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — A Buffalo area gallery has received an $11 million gift from the estate of a longtime board member and local arts patron.
The Buffalo News reports (http://bit.ly/16Taok0 ) that the Albright-Knox Art Gallery announced Wednesday that it received the bequest from the estate of Peggy Pierce Elfvin, who died last October. Gallery officials are expected to officially accept the gift Thursday during the annual meeting of the Buffalo Fine Arts Academy's board of trustees, which oversees the Albright-Knox.
It's believed to be the largest single gift in the history of the gallery, whose collection includes works by Picasso, Georgia O'Keeffe, Salvador Dali and Vincent van Gogh.
Elfvin, a 30-year member of the Albright-Knox board of directors, was the daughter of an industrialist who made his fortune in asbestos.
