NEWFANE, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a western New York man has died after he apparently was injured while setting up a tree stand for hunting.
The Niagara County Sheriff's Office says 52-year-old Donald Geist of Newfane went into the woods in his hometown Monday to set up a tree stand. When he didn't return, two friends went to search for him and found him at the base of a tree around 7:30 p.m.
Police and emergency crews were sent to the spot, where Geist was pronounced dead.
Authorities say his death appears to have been accidental, but it remains under investigation.
