CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (AP) — State police are investigating the death of a pedestrian who was hit by a tractor-trailer on the Thruway in suburban Buffalo, shutting down the eastbound lanes and causing major traffic backups during the evening rush hour.
Investigators with the state police Thruway detail say 26-year-old Brenden Ballacchino of Orchard Park was hit by a truck around 4:10 p.m. in the middle of Interstate 90's eastbound lanes between exits 53 and 52 in the town of Cheektowaga, just east of Buffalo.
Troopers shut down the eastbound side and diverted traffic off the Thruway while they investigated the accident. Traffic was backed up for miles until the lanes were reopened about three hours after the accident.
Investigators say Friday morning that their investigation is continuing.
