CLEVELAND (AP) Leading Ohio Republicans including U.S. House Speaker John Boehner (BAY'-nur) and the state attorney general have been subpoenaed to testify in a $100 million multi-state fraud case.

Court documents in Cleveland show subpoenas also were issued for testimony by two predecessors of Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine, who has directed the fraud investigation.

The defense wants to show the defendant made legal political donations from charity funds.

The speaker's office and DeWine's office had no immediate comment Wednesday.

The man who calls himself Bobby Thompson is scheduled to go on trial Monday on charges of defrauding people who donated to a reputed charity for Navy veterans. He has showered politicians, often Republicans, with political donations.

DeWine says the donations are a sideshow and aren't essential to the fraud case.
