BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. (AP) — A 23-year-old man has pleaded guilty in connection with a highway crash that killed two Albany-area high school students.
Local media report that Dennis Drue pleaded guilty Friday in Saratoga County court to 58 counts as part of a plea deal that includes a 5-to-15-year prison term. He had been indicted on charges that included aggravated vehicular homicide and vehicular manslaughter.
State police investigators say Drue rear-ended a Ford Explorer driven by 17-year-old Chris Stewart on the Northway on Dec. 1, causing the vehicle to roll several times. Stewart and 17-year-old Deanna Rivers were killed. Both were seniors at Shenendehowa High School in Clifton Park.
Two other high school students were severely injured.
Drue told the judge he was high on marijuana and speeding at the time of the crash.
