BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — The Buffalo Zoo has a new baby western lowland gorilla.
Zoo officials say the baby gorilla was born Wednesday. The mother, 12-year-old Lily, and the baby are both doing well.
Keepers have not been able to get close enough to the baby to determine its gender, but they believe it's a girl.
The father is a 26-year-old male named Koga.
Western lowland gorillas are native to central Africa.
Zoo officials say the species is critically endangered due to loss of habitat and hunting.
