NEW YORK (AP) Detectives from the NYPD's Hate Crimes Task Force are investigating at least three attacks in Union Square.

Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly told reporters Friday a black man arrested in the attacks told police he was going to punch the first white person he saw.

A 69-year-old white man who police say was knocked out Wednesday afternoon by the suspect in Union Square is still in serious condition at Bellevue Hospital.

Two other people attacked suffered minor injuries.
