NEW YORK (AP) — Police have rescued a woman who jumped into the East River near the Manhattan Bridge.
The Daily News (http://nydn.us/151A39e ) says witnesses called police after seeing the woman take off her clothes and dive into the water near Pike Street around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The NYPD's emergency service unit responded and swam out 30 feet to the woman, who was floating under the Bridge.
She was transported to a hospital in stable condition.
Police say she was being evaluated as an emotionally disturbed person.
