NEW YORK (AP) — A livery cab driver has been sentenced to 11 years in jail in connection with the robbery and murder of a bar patron.
The Queens district attorney's office says 24-year-old Deevan Jagmarine was sentenced on Monday after pleading guilty to robbery.
During the trial, Jagmarine testified against his accomplice, 22-year-old Alex Gobardhan, who was convicted of murder and sentenced to 17 years to life in prison.
Authorities say the victim, Matadin Ramnarain, was intoxicated when he got into Jagmarine's taxi in Ozone Park in August 2010. The say he and Gobardhan punched the victim and took his cell phone, wallet and a gold bracelet before dumping his body.
The medical examiner determined that his death was caused by a cardiac problem after he was hit on the head.
