The mayor and three Village Board members up for re-election March 18 are running unopposed.

Mayor Allan Kasprzak, 59, is finishing his second two-year term. A Buffalo police officer, he is looking forward to working on the $6.3 million firehouse, for which bids will be opened next month. A scarcity of building projects could provoke more competition and keep the price down, he said.

“We have a bidding war going on,” Kasprzak said. “We’re hoping it comes in lower.”

Trustee Patrick Shea, 54, a staff trainer for the Erie County Department of Social Services, has served three, two-year terms. He aims to keep spending down; the current $7.5 million budget carried a property tax rate increase of just .5 percent.

“I have a master’s degree in public administration,” Shea said. “I like government.”

Trustee Randy West, 58, is a civil engineer finishing his second term. A specialist in hydrology, he would like to use his expertise to help residents in the north part of town, where Tannery Brook has caused flooding.

West also would like to work on sidewalk construction and the master plan, to settle a design plan for the West End and a “more organized approach to development.”

Trustee Ernie Scheer, 49, has served four terms. A social studies teacher at Orchard Park Middle School, he’s proud of how well rebuilding Main Street turned out a few years ago and would like to encourage more visitors to come downtown by starting a Christmas parade, like the one in the movie “A Christmas Story.”

“I just think it’s kind of quaint,” Scheer said. “We need more events like that.”
