MUNCIE, Ind. – Javon McCrea scored 24 points on 10-of-12 shooting in another powerful performance and Will Regan had 17, including a clutch three-pointer, during the University at Buffalo’s 66-63 men’s basketball victory over Ball State Wednesday in front of 2,965 at Worthen Arena.

With their second straight conference victory, the Bulls (7-12) improved their Mid-American Conference record to 2-3 with a road game coming up at Akron on Saturday night.

Ball State fell to 7-10 overall and 1-4 in the MAC.

UB trailed, 31-29, at the half but led most of the way in the second half even though the lead swung back and forth and neither team had more than a five-point advantage over the final 20 minutes.

Ball State took a one-point lead with 2:55 left. A three by Regan (Nichols) with 8.9 seconds to go put UB on top 64-60. Jauwan Scaife hit a three-pointer for Ball State but Tony Watson made a pair of foul shots with 2.1 seconds to ice it.

Scaife led the Cardinals with 18 points. Majok Majok, Ball State’s powerful inside player, added 13 points and had six rebounds, but was outplayed by McCrea, the MAC East Player of the Week last week when he averaged a double-double in conference games against Kent State and Bowling Green.

McCrea added seven rebounds for the Bulls.

UB hit 45.8 percent on 22 of 48 shooting and was 7 for 17 on three-point tries.
