BATAVIA – Rumors of merger talks between United Memorial Medical Center and Rochester General are unfounded, UMMC said in response to reports among “some staff members.”

Colleen Flynn said talks between the two hospitals center on shared services, “and that’s as far as they’re going.” Rochester General has been a partner for specialized care and helps in recruiting doctors, Flynn said.

UMMC, with 99 beds, was founded in 2000 in a merger of the two community hospitals, St. Jerome and Genesee Memorial. Unlike many rural facilities, it has not merged with a larger institution.
