The town’s annual Winterfest Weekend continues today and Monday, with a variety of activities scheduled at Youth, Park & Recreation facilities.

Today’s events include a charity hockey game, beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Lincoln Arena, between town police and Ellwood firefighters. The event will benefit the families of Webster firefighters affected by the Christmas Eve ambush that killed two firefighters and wounded others.

Also, hayrides through Lincoln Park will be offered between 1 and 4:45 p.m.; and there will be a free recreational swim, with a DJ providing music, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Aquatic & Fitness Center.

On Monday, there will be a Senior/Youth Intergenerational Day at Sheridan Parkside Community Center, featuring games and contests, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Free refreshments will be available.

And there’s a free ice skating session in Lincoln Arena from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., sponsored by the police department.

Also this week:

• The first of several budget work sessions planned by the Ken-Ton School Board begins at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the auditorium of Kenmore East High School, 350 Fries Road. Also scheduled is a public hearing on voting sites; the board is considering reducing the number from three to one.

• Nominations will be accepted through Wednesday for two awards sponsored by the Ken-Ton Chamber of Commerce. The Service to Community Award honors a local business or business person who has demonstrated a commitment to the community by dedicating time and/or resources to a worthwhile cause or organization. The Green Globe Award, new this year, will recognize a local business that has implemented and practices a “green-” or “sustainability-” focused business philosophy. • Reservations will be accepted through Wednesday for the Ken-Ton Chamber of Commerce’s Jan. 25 luncheon, which will feature Senator Mark Grisanti as keynote speaker. The event, which is open to the public, begins at noon Jan. 25 in Banchetti’s Banquet Facility, 550 N. French Road, Amherst. The cost is $18 and includes a three-course hot meal. • Wednesday is the deadline to register for a game of NERF tag scheduled for 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, at the Ken-Ton Family YMCA, 535 Belmont Ave. The event is open to people ages 5 years and older – including parents. The cost is $2 for members of the YMCA and $5 for program members. Call the YMCA at 874-5051 for further information or to register. Players should bring their own NERF guns and protective gear.
