A Cheektowaga man was sentenced last week to a year in jail for defrauding an 85-year-old homeowner of about $18,450, according to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office.
Leslie “Les” Ralston, 32, of Brookfield Lane, also signed a confession of judgment to pay back all of the money.
Ralston pleaded guilty last month to third-degree grand larceny before Erie County Judge Kenneth F. Case.
Ralston told the woman that squirrels had damaged her roof and that he would repair the roof, according to District Attorney Frank A. Sedita III. Squirrels had not damaged the roof and Ralston did no repair work, officials said.
The crime happened between Dec. 4, 2011 and Jan. 18, 2012.
