State police in Erie and Wyoming counties issued 367 tickets, including 170 citations for speeding, during a five-day traffic safety initiative that wrapped up today.

Troopers conducted several traffic details during the heavy travel period between Wednesday and today. These included Operation Hang Up, which targeted distracted drivers; DWI saturation details and speed details on the area’s interstate highways; and a joint DWI checkpoint with Cheektowaga police, Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority police and Erie County sheriff’s deputies.

In addition to the tickets for speeding, troopers issued 15 tickets for distracted driving, made four arrests for driving while intoxicated and made seven arrests for unlawful possession of marijuana.

Troopers also investigated 11 minor accidents, six of which were caused by collisions with deer.
