The Canisius men’s basketball team looks to make it two wins in two starts over Big 4 opponents tonight when it hosts the University at Buffalo at 8 p.m. at the Koessler Center (Radio 1230, 1400 AM). The Griffins (2-0) are coming off a win over St. Bonaventure on Saturday.

It will be the 41st meeting between the schools in a series which dates back to 1915.

The Griffs are led by Harold Washington’s 22.5 points per game and 4.5 rebounds. Bill Baron chips in with 15.0 points while Jordan Heath’s 6.0 rebounds lead the way. It’s the Griffs’ third home game to start the season.

UB (1-4) remains on the road, but will be considerably closer to home after playing in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.

Javon McCrea was one of the tournament’s top performers, averaging 15.3 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.8 assists. Jarod Oldham recorded the team’s first double-double of the season after pulling down 10 rebounds to go with 16 points against Yale on Saturday night. Oldham set career highs in points and rebounds and also recorded his first career double-double against Yale.

The Canisius (1-2) women’s basketball team will play before the men as part of doubleheader. They will host Oakland University (2-1) at 5:30 p.m. It’s the first meeting between the two schools.

Jamie Ruttle of the Griffs has scored 18 points in each of her last two games.

Elsewhere, the St. Bonaventure women’s basketball team is at Fairfield tonight at 7 p.m. The Bonnies (3-0) are coming off a 54-45 victory over Colgate last Friday.

Doris Ortega had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds while Alaina Walker dropped in 15. Ashley Zahn is the leading scorer, averaging 9.7 points per game.
