RIDGEWAY – Roads have reopened and utility service restored to homes affected by the accidental dumping of tons of soybeans Thursday morning, the Orleans County Sheriff’s Office reported today.

Deputies said Eric J. Watson, 24, of Medina, was hauling a full load of granulated soybeans in a dump truck along Ridge Road when he inadvertently raised the dump box, spilling the entire load onto the roadway. The raised dump box also ripped down several electrical, telephone and cable television lines, causing four utility poles to snap.

No injuries were reported and no charges were filed against the driver, deputies said.

Sections of Ridge, Knowlesville and Townline roads were closed during the cleanup and repair work, which took almost 12 hours and was completed late Thursday night.
