A 56-year-old Grand Island man died this afternoon, after he lost control of his 1994 Chevrolet pickup truck, which left Baseline Road and crashed into a utility pole and tree.

Barry Vanderbrook was traveling north on Baseline about 1 p.m. when the crash occurred, Erie County sheriff’s deputies said this evening.

The utility pole fell atop the pickup during the crash.

Grand Island volunteer firefighters responded to the scene and extricated Vanderbrook from his vehicle.

Vanderbrook was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation tonight, deputies said.
