PORTER – The Niagara County Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service received a $7,000 donation from Waste Management, parent company of the CWM Chemical Services hazardous waste landfill here.

The money came courtesy of the company’s local golf tournament.

Jim Callahan of Waste Management, this year’s golf chairman, handed over the check that will provide the group with equipment for expanding and enhancing its services to Niagara County in the event of a disaster.

“These guys are unsung heroes. They are the ones prepared to help us communicate to get through any emergency situation, when other means of communication may be down,” Callahan said.

Part of the golf tournament funds also went to Equistar Therapeutic Riding Center in Newfane. Waste Management has been supporting a horse, named Belle, there for the last four years.
