The animal rights group PETA announced Monday it is offering up to $2,500 in addition to other rewards for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever was responsible for setting a puppy on fire last week on Buffalo’s East Side.

The 16-week-old Jack Russell terrier, nicknamed Phoenix, apparently was sprayed with lighter fluid and set on fire Oct. 29 on Herman Street. The puppy is recovering from third-degree burns over 30 percent of its body. Anyone with information should call or text the Buffalo Police Department tip line at 847-2255.
