A Lackawanna teen has been charged with pistol-whipping and robbing a city restaurant owner early Sunday.

Based on a tip to Lackawanna Narcotics Officer Aaron Brennan, Shavon Royal, 17, of Wasson Avenue, was arrested about 2 p.m. Wednesday while visiting a friend at Baker Homes, Lackawanna Chief of Detectives Joseph Leo told The Buffalo News on Thursday.

Royal is accused of attacking one of the owners of Nelson’s Ridge Restaurant, at Ridge Road and South Park Avenue, about 2:35 a.m. Sunday, Leo said. The owner came back to the restaurant to turn off some ovens when he found Royal, who pushed him at gunpoint into a bathroom, stole $100 and used the gun to hit him in the face and head, breaking his nose, the detective chief said.

Royal was charged with four counts of first-degree robbery, as well as first-degree assault, criminal possession of a weapon, petit larceny and criminal possession of a controlled substance. The latter charge resulted from officers finding Royal with a small bag of crack cocaine while he was being booked, Leo said.

Royal is being held in lieu of $85,000 bail.
