The 16-week-old Jack Russell Terrier puppy that was left nearly burned to death Monday night on Herman Street has been named “Phoenix” by the staff at the Buffalo Small Animal Hospital, with the approval of police officers and firefighters who rushed the stricken animal for treatment.

The male puppy still has a long road ahead as far as recovery goes, because he suffered burns over almost 100 percent of his body, according to his veterinary caretakers.

Buffalo police continue to investigate whether foul play was involved in the burning incident. Anyone with information is asked to call or text the police confidential tipline at 847-2255 or email www.bpdny.org.
